NATO Operation in Afghanistan
The Czech Republic operates its own Provincial Reconstruction Team in the Logar province
The Czech authorities responded to calls of allies for reinforcement of allied military presence in Afghanistan in support of success of ISAF operation in suppressing Taliban activities and in support of the Afghan Government.
The ACR have participated in the NATO International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan since 12 March 2004, while the first Czech PRT commenced its service in Logar on 19 March 2008.
Commander of the present 9th ACR Unit Colonel Antonin Genser assumed operational task on the 14th February 2012. Soldiers are being deployed for six months, that is till August 2012.
The Czech PRT comprises both military and civilian parts. The core of the military part is formed by soldiers of the 42nd Mechanised Battalion based at Tabor which is one of four major units of the 4th Rapid Deployment Brigade based at Zatec. The 9th ACR PRT is complemented by specialists from other 21 units and installations of the Czech military.
Equipment
Light armoured vehicles IVECO and Dingo, wheeled infantry fighting vehicles Pandur and American vehicles MRAP of MAXPro type. Small arms: as the first Czech unit deployed in Afghanistan, the 9th Unit is equipped with CZ 805 BREN of 5.56 caliber - the most modern Czech-made assault rifle.
