    With attendance of over 60 Heads of State and Governments from around the globe, dozens of Presidents and Prime Ministers, the 62nd Munich Security Conference was held last week. Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna attended several panel discussions and had a range of bilateral meetings.

    Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna went for his first visit in Brussels after assuming office to attend the NATO Defence Ministerial meeting, the European Foreign Affairs Council – Defence and the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG). He also had several bilateral meetings with his colleague Defence Ministers from other countries.

    The first foreign travel of Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna led to Bratislava, where he met his Slovak counterpart, Minister Robert Kaliňák. For the Czech Republic, Slovakia represents its historically closest partner, and the excellent relations also reflect in the intensive cooperation of both nations’ armed forces.

    After a twelve-month preparation, the Czech Armed Forces 7th Mechanised Brigade homebased in Hranice achieved a key milestone in its modern existence. The 7MechBde has just successfully completed the command post exercise Amber Lionheart, which proved the Brigade’s readiness to operate in the structure of the Multinational Division North East and its ability deploy for NATO Article V collective defence operations. The exercise focused on command and control processes without full deployment of all units in the field.

    Prime Minister Andrej Babiš introduced new Defence Minister Jaromír Zůna into office today. He replaced Jana Černochová in the most senior defence post. The outgoing Minister welcomed Minister Zůna in front of the main building in the MoD compound and then handed the agenda over to him in the Minister’s office.
