Subgroup on Passive Surveillance Systems Meets in Prague to Boost European Air Defence

On 11 and 12 June, the initial meeting of the Subgroup on Passive Surveillance Systems (PSS) took place under the leadership of experts from the Ministry of Defence. The new project seeks to identify the best solution for the ESSI initiative in the field of passive sensors, and above all to create a platform for sharing experience and expertise on the European level.

Support of Ukraine and main topics of the Nato Summit in The Hague were among the points discussed by the Czech Minister of Defence and her Dutch counterpart Minister Ruben Brekelmans, who visited the Czech Republic as a member of the official delegation of His Majety King Willem-Alexander. Their meeting was followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Czech Defence and Security Industry Association and the Netherlands Industries for Defence and Security.

Czech MoD accepts Swedish offer for continued use of Gripen aircraft

The Ministry of Defence accepted the Swedish offer for further use of the JAS-39 Gripen aircraft and the conclusion of the new contract up to 2035 was endorsed by the Collegium of the Minister. Thanks to intensive negotiations, the Ministry reached an offer which is approximately 25 % more advantageous compared to last year’s. An extension on the use of the Gripen will bridge the period until the introduction of fifth generation F-35 aircraft into the Czech Armed Forces.

The Strong Lineage 2025 multinational exercise has launched in the Lešť military training area in Slovakia as part of the new NATO Force Model (NFM) which is designed to project highly available and highly ready forces to respond to any threat. It is one of the most significant exercises of the multinational brigade of which the Czech Armed Forces 6th Task Force is also a member. This way, NATO can verify the high defence readiness and clearly show the resolve to provide security on the whole of its territory.

The Defence Ministers of the countries united in the so-called Coalition of the Willing and the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG) met in Brussels to discuss further support of Ukraine. While the Coalition of the Willing primarily addresses the question of a possible military engagement in Ukraine in case a truce or peace is negotiated, the UDCG addressed Ukraine’s urgent needs in regard of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s (AFU) support. That includes the supplies of artillery ammunition, which are the focal point of the Czech ammunition initiative. Defence Minister Jana Černochová represented the Czech Republic at both events with Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces Lieutenant General Karel Řehka.
