SURVIVAL COURSE - History

SERUM EST CAVENDI TEMPUS IN MEDIIS MALIS

(Seneca)

(It is too late to be careful in the middle of a misfortune)

The Course has been held annually since 1994. Originally, it was open only to journalists whose job was to travel to crisis areas and conflict-stricken countries to cover the military situation, trace developments, and provide news for Czech media outlets. The Course has been productive in helping to better mutual relations and understanding between the military and Czech journalists.

In 2001, the Course was renamed the Course of Special Training for Crisis Situations. The course was subsequently opened to representatives of humanitarian organisations to prepare them for potential threats they can encounter in risky areas.

Previous runs of the Course were held at the Military Training Areas of Dědice at Vyškov, Boletice at Český Krumlov, and at the Hamry ground at Prostějov.

There have been 181 holders of the Course Certificate since 1994. The average number of participants is 16 civilians each run.
