    Czech Republic has two new mission commanders to command NATO air operations in case of conflict

    Since February, the Čáslav AFB has two new Mission Commanders, who are able to control a multinational air operation in case of conflict. JAS-39 Gripen fighter pilots completed the test in a Tactical Leadership Programme (TLP) exercise in Spain two weeks ago.

    On Tuesday afternoon, the airspace over the Giant Mountains in the Czech Republic hosted the unique union of the Czech Air Force JAS-39 Gripen aircraft and the Airbus A330 MRTT tanker. This was the very first time fighter pilots from the Čáslav Air Force Base had their try with air-to-air refuelling (AAR) from the multirole tanker aircraft of the MMF program (Multinational MRTT Fleet), which is home-stationed in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The successful test shall be followed with additional training of the Czech pilots with the multirole aircraft.

    Defence Minister Jana Černochová visited Israel and met with her counterpart, Minister Yoav Galant, to discuss the security situation in the Middle East and in Europe, and defence industrial cooperation, including acquisition projects. Just as the President, Prime Minister and other representatives of the Government, the Minister was another senior Czech governmental official to express solidarity and an unequivocal support to Israel in its fight against the Hamas terrorist organisation.

    Specialised mobile teams comprising Czech combat engineers, CBRN defence specialists, paramedics and snipers trained around one thousand Ukrainian service members in Poland in 2023. Their assignment to the EUMAM will continue throughout this year, and will even expand. According to the commanding officer of the first rotation Captain Pavel Kinc, common training benefits the Czech Armed Forces service personnel too: “Thanks to current lessons from the battlefield, we are able to update our own operating procedures, create sustainable solutions, work to prevent future conflicts and strengthen cooperation with other partners.”
