Czech defence industries made their mark in the LAAD 2025

Brazil has recently significantly increased its investments into defence and security technologies in response to the aggravating global security situation. The fact that it represents a very interesting partner for the Czech Republic in defence exports was reflected in the bilateral meetings in the LAAD 2025, a prominent defence and security exhibition held in Rio de Janeiro.

Defence Ministers met in Brussels to discuss further support of Ukraine

The Defence Ministers of the countries united in the so-called Coalition of the Willing and the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG) met in Brussels to discuss further support of Ukraine. While the Coalition of the Willing primarily addresses the question of a possible military engagement in Ukraine in case a truce or peace is negotiated, the UDCG addressed Ukraine’s urgent needs in regard of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s (AFU) support. That includes the supplies of artillery ammunition, which are the focal point of the Czech ammunition initiative. Defence Minister Jana Černochová represented the Czech Republic at both events with Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces Lieutenant General Karel Řehka.

Czech service members in Lithuania: CBRN defence in exercise Iron Fortress

Czech service members of the Multifunctional Chemical Defence Company performed sampling, identification, decontamination, and other tasks during the Iron Fortress exercise held in the Gaiziunai training area, Lithuania, from March 18-28. It was the first of a range of exercises attended by the CBRN defence specialists of the Czech Armed Forces’ 5th Task Force MNBG Lithuania.

The EU’s new approach to defence: procurement from European industries and rationalisation

The changing security reality in Europe requires radical steps to strengthen defence capabilities of the Member States, EU Defence Ministers agreed in an informal meeting in Warsaw on April 2–3. The representatives of the Member States also focused on stepping up military assistance to Ukraine and strengthening the European defence industry. The Czech Republic was represented by Deputy Minister of Defence Daniel Blažkovec.

NATO Defence Ministers met in Brussels

In Brussels, the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG) discussed further support to Ukraine, both through the supplies of necessary military materiel and in the form of increasing the capacity of the Ukrainian defence industry. The Czech Republic was represented by Defence Minister Jana Černochová. The meeting was attended by newly sworn U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth as well as Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov.
