BG Bartovský replaces Lieutenant General Jan Beroun, who had held the position since 2014. Minister Černochová thanked General Beroun for his long-standing service and bestowed on him the State Defence Cross, the highest defence decoration. She also wished BG Bartovský, a senior military intelligence service member, every success in his new capacity.
“Given the current global security situation, General Bartovský faces a challenging task. However, with his extensive experience and skills acquired in the Czech Armed Forces and in the Military Intelligence, I am confident that he is the right person in the right place, and I look forward to working with him,” said Minister Černochová.
“We know our mission, there is no change. The Military Intelligence has been, and will remain a crucial component in ensuring the defence and security of our country. One of my main goals will be to enhance internal coordination in order to maximize the utilization of all capabilities and capacities,” General Bartovský stated.
The proposal of the Minister of Defence for the appointment of the new director was deliberated by the Defence Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic on April 23, 2024. The Government unanimously endorsed his appointment on April 24, 2024.
After leaving the Military Intelligence, Jan Beroun will continue to work for the Government. He will inform the public and the media about his future endeavour in due course.
Brigadier General Petr Bartovský, MPA, enlisted in 1994 and graduated from the Military University of Ground Forces in Vyškov. He served in various command and staff positions in subordination to the 1st Army Corps and the Land Forces Command. In 2001, he was assigned to the then Military Defence Intelligence and held several lead positions within the Military Intelligence over the years. His operational deployments include KFOR and EUFOR. He holds security clearance at the Top Secret level.
