European Union Naval Forces - Mediterranean - EUNAVFOR MED

The implementation phase of the European Union naval military operation, EUNAVFOR MED, was launched on 22 June 2015. As of 28 September 2015, the operation has launched its second phase under the name of Sophia Operation.

The operation is part of a complex response of EU to issues of illegal migration from African continent to Europe.

At present, the Czech Republic contributes to the operation by deployment of five military officers.

This 15th group of five soldiers is commanded by Colonel Miroslav Chylik who assumed the operational task on the 29th July 2022.
